With Shapify.me you can instantly create your own 3D selfies from home. Just follow these simple steps to scan and 3D print yourself. You have to download and install the application and get Microsoft Kinect.
Don't have a Kinect? Get it from Amazon!
Place your Kinect roughly at the level of your chest and make sure that no objects are obstructing the sensor. You may want to use a tripod to hold the Kinect.
The scanning area should be an empty area of roughly 2x2 sq.m., where you can easily make 45 degree turns. Make sure to remove unwanted objects in that area such as chairs, floor lamps, or cats.
Make sure that you have a well-lit environment during scanning. The subject should be as uniformly lit as possible and avoid backlights to the sensor and strong specular lights and shadows on the subject.
Install Shapify.me on your machine. Connect the Kinect sensor to your computer and don't forget to connect the power cable of the Kinect. Run the application. Press the ‘Capture’ button to initiate scanning.
Walk toward the Kinect (roughly 1 m away) and make a pose you can repeat 8 times by turning around. And follow the voice instructions. For each turn don't forget to maintain the same facial expression and pose.
Once the scanning is done, your captured data will be processed for a few minutes and voila! Your 3D scan is ready! Review your digital model by spinning around.
When you are happy with your 3D scan, you may choose to 3D print your very own figurine by hitting the "3D Print" button. Your 3D model will first be uploaded to the online gallery on www.shapify.me where you can fill out the form to order your 3D printed figurine.
